High efficiency 125 J second-harmonic generation from CsLiB_6O_10 nonlinear crystal by diode-pumped Nd:glass laser

Abstract: A 12.5 J second-harmonic generation with 71.5% conversion efficiency at 0.6 Hz repetition rate from a diode-pumped Nd:glass laser system has been demonstrated by using a CsLiB(6)O(10) (CLBO) nonlinear optical crystal as a frequency doubler. The CLBO has aperture of 40 mm x 40 mm and thickness of 14 mm with Type-II phase matching. The CLBO is mounted into a housing which flows dry nitrogen gas on the CLBO's face. There is no significant reduction of conversion efficiency by exposing of over 600,000 shots for in… Show more

“…BEAT is a 10 Hz hybrid system via optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) and Ti:Al 2 O 3 multi-pass amplifiers [22,23]. KURE-1 is a second harmonic generation (SHG) 10 J/10 Hz DPSSL system based on a water-cooled Nd:glass zigzag path slab amplification scheme [24]. In KURE-1, a pulse through a nonlinear crystal (CsLiB 6 O 10 ) provides two beams: a converted SHG beam and the remainder fundamental beam.…”

“…A CLBO is used for frequency doubling from infrared at 1053 nm to green at 527 nm. This system is all-diode pumped and can operate at 10 J with a 10 Hz repetition rate [8]. The green pulse, with an aperture of 16 mm × 22 mm, is transported to the HAMA amplifier by a vacuum telescope with a length of 8 m.…”

“…Candidate pump sources are typically frequencydoubled 1-µm lasers based on neodymium or ytterbium in bulk hosts. Several demonstrations with Yb-doped crystals have achieved joule-class or greater frequency-doubled pulse energies [9][10][11]. Thermal management in these systems is of critical importance and typically limits the repetition rate to the ∼10 Hz range, although at least one system has been operated at 1 kHz through careful distribution of the thermal load over numerous amplification stages [12].…”
