High‐Coverage Metabolome Analysis Reveals Significant Diet Effects of Autoclaved and Irradiated Feed on Mouse Fecal and Urine Metabolomics

Abstract: Scope Using metabolomics to study the relations of nutrition and health requires stringent control of the experimental conditions used in an animal model. This work investigates the diet effects of autoclaved and irradiated feed on mouse urine and fecal metabolomics. Methods and Results C57BL/6 mice are fed normal‐irradiation sterilized diet (n = 9), autoclave sterilized diet (n = 9), and high‐irradiation sterilized diet (n = 9) for 4 weeks. Differential chemical isotope labeling liquid chromatography mass spe… Show more

“…Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) can be used for accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis [15,16]. Metabolic research on fever has usually focused on bio-fluid organization samples, such as serum, plasma, urine, and brain [17][18][19][20]. However, fever is caused by the increase in the heat production process when the body is under the action of a heat source or the dysfunction of the temperature center; the brain's thermoregulatory center plays a key role.…”

“…Besides eliminating microbial contamination, γ-irradiation also causes chemical modifications of food components [ 13 ] and therefore, doubts about safety or beneficial effects of γ-irradiated foods continue to be debated in public as well as in scientific circles [ 5 ]. Although Su et al have reported the effects of autoclaved or irradiated food on mouse urine and fecal metabolomics [ 14 ], the current knowledge on the interplay between consumption of sterilized diets by radiation and cancer biology is limited.…”
