Here, the authors propose a scalable scrambling algorithm operating in the discrete cosine transform (DCT) domain within the JPEG codec. The goal is to ensure that people are no more identifiable while keeping their actions still understandable regardless of the image size. For each 8 × 8 block, the authors encrypt the DCT coefficients to protect data information, and shift them towards the high frequencies to make the DC position available. Whereas encrypted coefficients appear as noise in the protected image, the DC position is dedicated to restitute some of the original information (e.g. the average colour associated with one or a group of blocks). The proposed approach automatically sets the value of each DC according to the region of interest size in order to keep the level of privacy protection strong enough. Comparing to existing methods, the proposed privacy protection framework provides flexibility concerning the appearance of the protected version which makes it stronger for protecting the privacy even during potential attacks. Moreover, the method does not cause excessive perturbation for the recognition of the actions and slightly decreases the efficiency of the JPEG standard.

Recently, with the availability of fast and reliable Internet, the distance between a patient and a doctor is becoming unimportant. Physicians will be able to request the medical images of their patients regardless of the geographical area. However, a lot of challenges face such successful implementation. To facilitate remote diagnosis, patient electronic medical record (EMR), including medical images, that originates in one system needs to be exchanged either within the same organization or across different organizations. Steganography is the practice of concealing a secret message inside a cover medium. In this paper, steganography will be used to embed the patient’s personal information securely and imperceptibly in their medical images to enhance confidentiality in case of a distant diagnosis. The security of the medical data is improved to maintain confidentiality and integrity using IoT. The least significant bit of the approximate coefficient of integer wavelet transform is proposed. The distortion between the cover image and stego-image is obtained by measuring the mean square error and PSNR, and normalized cross-correlation is utilized to estimate the degree of closeness between the cover image and stego-image.

In this paper, we propose a novel model for 3D object watermarking. The proposed method is based on the properties of the discrete cosine transform (DCT) of the 3D object vertices to embed a secret grayscale image three times. The watermarking process takes place by using the vertices coefficients and the encrypted image pixels. Moreover, the extraction process is totally blind based on the reverse steps of the embedding process to recover the secret grayscale image. Various performance aspects of the method are measured and compared between the original 3D object and the watermarked one using Euclidean distance, Manhattan distance, cosine distance, and correlation distance. The obtained results show that the proposed model provides better performances in terms of execution time and invisibility.
