“…Many systematic investigations on fibre laser cutting were carried out. For example, with stainless steel it is of several authors 19,22 stated that the cutting speed with fibre laser is larger with the same achievement than with the CO 2 laser. From this, one can infer that a less powerful fibre laser compared to a CO 2 has the same performance.…”

“…Experimental data on cutting of various metals mainly with nitrogen used as a process gas are available (a detailed review can be found in [1]). It is known that solid-state lasers ensure a greater velocity of cutting of thin sheets than CO 2 lasers with the same power in the case of cutting with an inert process gas; for instance, for a sheet thickness of 1-2 mm, the difference in the cutting velocity is expressed by a factor of 3-4 [2,3]. The difference in the optimal cutting velocities is less significant in the case of cutting of 4-mm sheets and almost vanishes in the case of cutting of 10-mm sheets; moreover, a CO 2 laser ensures a better quality of the cut edge.…”

“…The differences between two lasers in cut characteristics are clearly seen when cutting the sheets of 1…2 mm, and 10 mm and above 3,4 . In the case of medium thicknesses, the choice of the laser calls for special analysis, as the choice may be related with the final purpose -the maximal cutting speed or the best cut quality.…”
