High Antioxidant and Phenolic Contents Related to Antibacterial Activity against Gastrointestinal Pathogenic Bacteria of Some Thai Medicinal Plants

Abstract: Objective: Thai medicinal plants were used as the traditional medicines and as part of everyday plants diet. Plants contain a mixture of phytochemical and exhibit a lot of functional food and medicinal properties. This project aims to investigate the potential of selected Thai medicinal plants according to the properties of their antioxidant and antibacterial activities. Methods: The eighteen plants were extracted using maceration method with 95% ethanol. The antioxidant activity was evaluated by DPPH and FRAP… Show more

“…The average IC50 value of positive control quercetin was 6.07 μg/mL. The previous work reported the IC50 of water extract of C. sappan of 15.08 -53.61 μg/mL [50], the hydroethanolic extract of 32.37 μg/mL [37], and ethanolic extract of 2 -140 μg/mL [38,44,51]. In the case of H. sabdariffa, the IC50 values of water extract and hydroethanolic extract were 516 μg/mL [41] and 280 μg/mL [41].…”

“…[12]. The ethanol extract of C. sappan stem exhibited strong antioxidant and antibacterial activities against the 6 pathogenic bacteria [13] Three southern border provinces of Thailand have a diversity of local and medicinal plants using for treatment of bacterial infections. This study therefore aims to determine the activity of P. tetrandra K. Schum root extract against antibiotic resistance bacteria.…”
