“…Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; 20:5n-3) is a potential candidate as a competitor for the incorporation and metabolism of AA in tick salivary glands and studies addressing this issue were performed in vivo and in vitro in the lone star tick, Amblyomma americanum. The uptake of 13HlAA by cultured human skin fibroblasts was unaffected by the presence of 5 pM oleate or linoleate, but was reduced one-third by the presence of 5 pM AA or EPA (Banerjee and Rosenthal, 1985).
