Impact of northern and southern air mass transport on the temporal distribution of atmospheric 210Po and 210Pb in the east coast of Johor, Malaysia

“…It is noteworthy that 210 Pb Res and 210 Po Res have been dominant in all seasons, at 1.2-to 2.6-fold and 1.9-to 4.2-fold, respectively, to ambient levels ( Table 4). The enrichment of inorganic minerals in PM 10 was heavily linked to the long-range air mass transport containing soil dust from the Asian arid regions (Tateda & Iwao 2008) as well as a continuous supply of soil re-suspension from localized areas (Sabuti & Mohamed, submitted). In fact, the average activity ratio of 210 Po Res / 210 Pb Res in Table 3 is closer to~1 (0.97 ± 0.73) and can be presumed to be the result of significant soil re-suspension input into the atmosphere.…”
