We demonstrate how to efficiently expand cross sections for color-singlet production at hadron colliders around the kinematic limit of all final state radiation being collinear to one of the incoming hadrons. This expansion is systematically improvable and applicable to a large class of physical observables. We demonstrate the viability of this technique by obtaining the first two terms in the collinear expansion of the rapidity distribution of the gluon fusion Higgs boson production cross section at next-to-next-to leading order (NNLO) in QCD perturbation theory. Furthermore, we illustrate how this technique is used to extract universal building blocks of scattering cross section like the N-jettiness and transverse momentum beam function at NNLO.

Inclusive and differential fiducial cross sections of the Higgs boson are measured in the $$H \rightarrow ZZ^{*} \rightarrow 4\ell $$ H → Z Z ∗ → 4 ℓ ($$\ell = e,\mu $$ ℓ = e , μ ) decay channel. The results are based on proton−proton collision data produced at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS detector from 2015 to 2018, equivalent to an integrated luminosity of 139 $$\hbox {fb}^{-1}$$ fb - 1 . The inclusive fiducial cross section for the $$H \rightarrow ZZ^{*} \rightarrow 4\ell $$ H → Z Z ∗ → 4 ℓ process is measured to be $$\sigma _\mathrm {fid} = 3.28 \pm 0.32$$ σ fid = 3.28 ± 0.32 fb, in agreement with the Standard Model prediction of $$\sigma _\mathrm {fid, SM} = 3.41 \pm 0.18 $$ σ fid , SM = 3.41 ± 0.18 fb. Differential fiducial cross sections are measured for a variety of observables which are sensitive to the production and decay of the Higgs boson. All measurements are in agreement with the Standard Model predictions. The results are used to constrain anomalous Higgs boson interactions with Standard Model particles.

The inclusive hadroproduction of a Higgs boson and of a jet, featuring large transverse momenta and well separated in rapidity, is proposed as a novel probe channel for the manifestation of the Balitsky–Fadin–Kuraev–Lipatov (BFKL) dynamics. Using the standard BFKL approach, with partial inclusion of next-to-leading order effects, predictions are presented for azimuthal Higgs-jet correlations and other observables, to be possibly compared with experimental analyses at the LHC and with theoretical predictions obtained in different schemes.
