We consider the gluon fusion production cross section of a scalar Higgs boson in models where fermion and scalar massive colored particles are present. We report analytic expressions for the matrix elements of gg → Hg, qq → Hg, and qg → Hq processes completing the calculation of the NLO QCD corrections in these extended scenarios. The formulas are written in a complete general case, allowing a flexible use for different theoretical models. Applications of our results to two different models are presented: i) a model in which the SM Higgs sector is augmented by a weak doublet scalar in the SU (N c ) adjoint representation. ii) The MSSM, in the limit of neglecting the gluino contribution to the cross section.

Higgs-boson production in association with bottom quarks, pp/pp → bbH+X, is an important discovery channel for supersymmetric Higgs particles at the Tevatron and the LHC. We present higher-order QCD predictions for inclusive cross sections and for the production of a Higgs boson in association with high-pT bottom quarks. We compare calculations performed in a four-flavour scheme based on the parton processes gg, qq → bbH with five-flavour scheme calculations based on bottom-quark scattering.

Abstract. I review the theoretical aspects of the physics of Higgs bosons, focusing on the elements that are relevant for the production and detection at present hadron colliders. After briefly summarizing the basics of electroweak symmetry breaking in the Standard Model, I discuss Higgs production at the LHC and at the Tevatron, with some focus on the main production mechanism, the gluon-gluon fusion process, and summarize the main Higgs decay modes and the experimental detection channels. I then briefly survey the case of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. In a last section, I review the prospects for determining the fundamental properties of the Higgs particles once they have been experimentally observed.
