Hierarchical structure of the triclinic α-phase crystal in nylon 6,12 mediated by two-dimensional confinement

Abstract: It has been recognized that macromolecular chains can self-assemble into a hierarchical structure from lamellae to spherulites in bulk crystallization. However, little account has been taken of crystal symmetry effects on the hierarchical nanostructure in polymers under cylindrical confinement. In this research, a model polymer, nylon 6,12, most commonly occurring in the triclinic phase, was chosen in order to demonstrate the effect of triclinic symmetry on the 2D-constrained polymer nanostructure. The self-ar… Show more

“…The problem of selecting a suitable insulator for a particular use has become complicated due to their operation in abnormal conditions of high environmental humidity, very low and very high temperatures, electrical and mechanical stresses, etc. [9][10][11][12]. It has been shown that electret forming characteristics of polymers can be greatly improved by doping them with suitable impurities.…”

“…Chain packing is an important feature of the phase structure in polymers, which greatly affects the physical properties of the polymeric materials. , Therefore, controlling the phase structure is a key issue to manipulate the physical properties of polymeric materials. On the other hand, the molecular chain can self-assemble into a new anisotropic polymer structure under spatial confinement. However, how molecular chain assembly develops in cylindrical confinement remains unclear. Previous investigations on 2D confined polymer nanorods illustrate the crystal growth, molecular dynamics, and crystallization kinetics. Recently, we have carried out a series of studies on the symmetry impact on the polymer nanostructure in 2D confinement. …”

“…[51] Since its introduction, the MetalJet X-ray source has been used in single crystal X-ray diffraction studies involving all kinds of different compounds. From small organic molecules [59][60][61][62][63][64] to proteins, [65][66][67][68] polymers [69,70] and metal organic frameworks. [71] Furthermore inorganic compounds containing p-block elements [72,73] as well as d-metal complexes [74][75][76][77][78][79][80] have been investigated.…”
