Three-dimensional Ag 2 O and Ag co-modified flower-like SnS 2 composites have been synthesized through a facile hydrothermal and photoreduction process. The physical and chemical properties of Ag 2 O and Ag co-modified flower-like SnS 2 composites were carefully studied by using XRD, SEM, TEM, UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra (DRS) and XPS. The photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared products was evaluated by photocatalytic decolorization of Rhodamine B (Rh B) aqueous solution at ambient temperature under solar light irradiation. The photocatalytic result shows that Ag 2 O and Ag co-modified flower-like SnS 2 composites exhibit enhanced photocatalytic activity compared with that of pure SnS 2. Three of the Ag 2 O and Ag co-modified flower-like SnS 2 composites form the Z-scheme systems, because of their unique charge-carrier transfer process, the oxidation/reduction ability of photogenerated holes and electrons could be enhanced. Therefore, the new Ag 2 O and Ag co-modified flower-like SnS 2 composites possess a favorable photocatalytic activity, and it can be a promising candidate for the solar energy conversion process.

Plasmopara viticola, a causal agent of grapevine downy mildew, is a widely distributed pathogen, which can cause destructive disease in field-grown grapevines. Although fungicides are used to treat the disease, fungicide-resistant strains have been emerging. In this study, we developed graphene oxide (GO)-Fe3O4 nanocomposites, which could effectively repress the germination of sporangia and inhibit the development of downy mildew. 50 μg mL −1 GO-Fe3O4 showed excellent protective and fungicidal activities. 250 μg mL −1 GO-Fe3O4 on grapevine leaves in the field could significantly decrease the severity of downy mildew, suggesting its potent curative effect. Moreover, GO-Fe3O4 had no significant toxic effects on grapevine plants even at the concentration twice that of the highest dosage (1000 μg mL −1) used in this study. Our work suggested that GO-Fe3O4 would offer an important opportunity to develop new approach for controlling plant diseases.

The coating procedure appears to be an indispensable finishing stage in the production of Al based industrial products, engineering facilities and equipment. For this reason, there is an ever-increasing interest towards the elaboration of reliable corrosion protective layers with apparent coverage, adhesion, and barrier properties. In this sense, both the formation of anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) layer and its further modification with silver enable the elaboration of advanced (Al-O-Ag) films with extended beneficial characteristics. The present research activities are aimed at the determination of the corrosion protective properties of electrochemically synthesized Al-O-Ag layers on the technically pure AA1050 alloy. The structures and compositions of the obtained Al-O-Ag layers were characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The research activities were accomplished by means of two independent electrochemical characterization methods: electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic scanning (PDS). The electrochemical measurements were performed after 24, 168 and 672 hours of exposure to 3.5 % NaCl solution used as a model corrosive medium (MCM), in order to determine the barrier properties and durability of the elaborated Al-O-Ag layers. The analysis of the obtained results has undoubtedly shown that the proposed electrochemical Al-O-Ag layer formation can successfully be used for the creation of self-standing layers with apparent corrosion protective properties. Besides, Al-O-Ag system can be used as a basis for development of efficient protective layers suitable for application in biologically contaminated media.
