HI observations of edge-on spiral galaxies

Abstract: Abstract. Neutral hydrogen observations with the 100-m Effelsberg radio telescope are presented for 268 spiral galaxies from the Revised Flat Galaxy Catalog. Fluxes, radial velocities and line widths are given for 121 detected galaxies, as well as search parameters for 147 undetected objects. Most of the detected galaxies are late type (Sbc -Sdm) spirals with a mean M 25 /L B ratio of 2.5 in solar units. (M 25 is the total mass within the 25 m / isophote) and a mean hydrogen mass fraction M HI /M 25 = 0.13. Co… Show more

“…Effelsberg by Huchtmeier et al (2005) at 6679 km s −1 , which is significantly higher than our value of 6575 km s −1 . The published spectrum shows a narrow peak at 7050 km s −1 , however, which does not occur in our spectrum and thus appears due to RFI.…”

“…An excess of UFGs in the region of the Local Supercluster center (RA = 12. h 5, Dec = +12 • ) as compared to the homogeneous distribution is only ∆N ∼ 5 of galaxies. The section of 3000-10 000 km s −1 (the second panel from the top) is filled the most complete mainly due to the observations with the 300-m Arecibo Observatory radio telescope [22], the 6-m BTA telescope [23] and the 100-m Radio Telescope Effelsberg [24,25]. The galaxies in this radial velocity interval also show a barely discernible concentration in the regions of the well-known Coma and Pisces-Perseus clusters.…”
