Hexagonal-Shaped Broadband Compact Scrimp Horn Antenna for Operation in $C$-Band

Abstract: Abstract-The performance of compact linearly polarized Short Circular Ring-loaded horn with Minimized cross-Polarization (Scrimp) horns with different aperture sizes is first evaluated using an in-house finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) computer-aided design (CAD) tool. Then, a very short hexagonal Scrimp horn with an aperture size of is designed in -band; its height is only. The experimental results demonstrate that the aperture efficiency is higher than 80% with a reflection coefficient lower than 17 dB o… Show more

“…For aperture sizes up to 2λ0, many candidate antenna solutions with excellent RF performance and low profile have been developed. These solutions include the Scrimp horn [4,5], the short backfire antenna [6][7][8][9] or the stacked Fabry-Perot cavity antenna [10]. However, for the aforementioned radiating elements, the bandwidth and the aperture efficiency decrease steadily as the radiating aperture is increased.…”

“…6 A modified dual-band CPW-fed antenna was proposed for a WLAN-band application on a thin substrate. 7 A broadband planar monopulse antenna was presented to increase the impedance bandwidth for C-band applications, where a monopulse comparator was used as the sum-difference feed network.…”
