“…Group 4 oxyfluorides in the solid state are well-established. The Ti-O bond length in the OTiF 2 crystal is close to a single bond, 56 and chainlets -Ti-O-Tiare in evidence as well. 57 The molecule Ti(OH) 2 F 2 is actually OTiF 2 (H 2 O) as it exhibits a broad Ti-O stretching band about 950 cm −1 .…”

“…2 and 3, respectively, and indicate that at 225 C the uorination route produces largely phase pure powders. It is notable that a TiOF 2 phase prepared through a low temperature metathetic reaction with SiO 2 has also been reported to crystallize in a rhombohedral structure with a ¼ 5.333 Å and c ¼ 13.232 Å, and to undergo a reversible transition to a high temperature cubic structure near 60-65 C. 26 The clearest distinction between the diffraction patterns of cubic TiOF 2 and the rhombohedral structure can be made with peaks near to and the TiO x N y precursors, respectively. This indicates that a slight increase in domain size during conversion to the uoride from the TiO 2 precursor, but a slight decrease in domain size during the conversion to the uoride from the TiN precursor, though the results are similar within the error of the method.…”
