Hexadecyltrimethylammonium Bromide Surfactant-Supported Silica Material for the Effective Adsorption of Metanil Yellow Dye

Abstract: The adsorption behavior of an organic dye, metanil yellow (My), from water using micro–nano silica particles (MNSPs) was investigated. MCM-41-like (Mobil Composition of Matter No. 41) MNSPs were synthesized using tetraethoxy orthosilicate as a silica source and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a surfactant under basic conditions. Comparative studies were performed to assess the adsorption behaviors of the organic dye using the as-synthesized MCM-41 before the removal of CTAB and MCM-41, either afte… Show more

“…SiNPs also exhibit more negative zeta potential values at mild acidic and basic conditions. 4,39,40 This leads to the formation of primary particles due to the nucleation of SiO 2 particles. 4,39,40 These results obey the isoelectric point of silica (pH $3).…”

“…4,39,40 This leads to the formation of primary particles due to the nucleation of SiO 2 particles. 4,39,40 These results obey the isoelectric point of silica (pH $3). 41 The presence of both carboxylic and hydroxyl functional groups in MAF-OH slightly altered the pH of silica particles based on the MAF-OH amounts, which may be the reason to get some shi in the zeta potential values.…”

“…Presently, the methods for detecting azo dyes include chromatographic techniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry (LC-MS) . The standard methods used for removal of azo dyes includes adsorption, ,, the photo-Fenton process, , and advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) . Among these, AOPs via photocatalytic degradation hold a huge potential toward the treatment of organic contaminants in aqueous media via the generation of reactive oxygen radicals/species, with the advantage that upon treatment no secondary contaminants are produced.…”

“…Inorganic loaded materials exhibited good durability and mechanical strength (Geng et al 2016). Porous silica materials have been focused in the area of dye adsorption, because of their large space, porous structure, high surface area and low refractive coe cient (Liang et al 2017;Nagappan et al 2019), which it can promote pigment color strength and chemical stability. Moreover, porous silica materials have some superiority in its harmlessness for humans, and good control, recycled and economical property (Geng et al 2016).…”
