Heterolayered, One-Dimensional Nanobuilding Block Mat Batteries

Abstract: The rapidly approaching smart/wearable energy era necessitates advanced rechargeable power sources with reliable electrochemical properties and versatile form factors. Here, as a unique and promising energy storage system to address this issue, we demonstrate a new class of heterolayered, one-dimensional (1D) nanobuilding block mat (h-nanomat) battery based on unitized separator/electrode assembly (SEA) architecture. The unitized SEAs consist of wood cellulose nanofibril (CNF) separator membranes and metallic … Show more

“…The surface structure of VMP cathode sheets was elucidated by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) with focused monochromatized Al Kα radiation. The porosity of VMP cathode sheets was estimated by measuring its density difference before and after solvent (n‐butanol) uptake . The composition ratio of VMP cathode sheets was determined from thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) measurement (SDT Q600, TA Instruments) at a heating rate of 5 °C min −1 under air atmosphere.…”

“…The CNF can be extracted from trees by a chemical pretreatment followed by a homogenization process, where after the CNF form a stable hydrogel dispersion with more than 98% water . Recently, CNF have been evaluated as a building block for nanopaper, flexible electronics, capacitors, magnetic paper, and batteries . However, the resulting structures have always been 1D, 2D or very simple 3D in case of foams.…”
