Heterogeneous sono-Fenton-like process using martite nanocatalyst prepared by high energy planetary ball milling for treatment of a textile dye

Abstract: High energy planetary ball milling was applied to prepare sono-Fenton nanocatalyst from natural martite (NM). The NM samples were milled for 2-6h at the speed of 320rpm for production of various ball milled martite (BMM) samples. The catalytic performance of the BMMs was greater than the NM for treatment of Acid Blue 92 (AB92) in heterogeneous sono-Fenton-like process. The NM and the BMM samples were characterized by XRD, FT-IR, SEM, EDX and BET analyses. The particle size distribution of the 6h-milled martite… Show more

“…A similar situation has been described for the nZVI-based hetero-Fenton process, where nanoscaled Fe 0 particles substitute Fe(II) in the initial stages of the process [182] as well as in the sono-Fenton-like process, where Fe(III) salts are used instead of Fe(II) [183]. This suggests that the use of a catalyst may improve energy consumption due to the occurrence of synergistic effects.…”

“…Moreover, the intensity of CNS XRD peaks was lower than that of natural clinoptilolite peaks, which may be attributed to the decrease in the crystal order of the zeolite. Similar results were reported for the preparation of martite nanocatalyst from natural martite by high-energy planetary ball milling (Dindarsafa et al, 2017).…”

“…The ultrasonic and photo-Fenton processes could be considered as appropriate and operative treatment methods that have been frequently used to remove many pollutants in the wastewater [27,28]. Fenton and photo-Fenton processes are considered as a technology with a good potential for removing pollutant compounds from wastewater at room temperature and pressure [29].…”

“…Several studies have been done on combined AOPs that can increase the production of more hydroxyl radicals for degradation of resistant organic contaminants [8,9]. The ultrasonic and Fenton processes are AOPs that can be suitable treatment methods which have been employed for the removal of various pollutants in the wastewater [10,11]. The addition of ultrasonic irradiation to the Fenton and photo-Fenton process can be a good choice to overcome the restrictions of mentioned processes.…”
