Heterogeneous Impact of Electrification of Road Transport on Premature Deaths from Outdoor Air Pollution: A Macroeconomic Evidence from 29 European Countries

Abstract: One of the biggest problems associated with vehicles that use internal combustion engines is that they cause elevated levels of pollution in the places they travel through, especially if they cause congestion. However, it is not only the level, but also probably the concentration of gases emitted by internal combustion engines in the places where they move around that is particularly lethal. Can the road transport sector’s electrification mitigate premature deaths from outdoor air pollution? Our main hypothesi… Show more

“…Table 4 below shows the results from the VIF test. As shown in Table 4 above, the VIF results show that the presence of multicollinearity is not a concern for all models, given the low VIF and mean VIF values recorded, which are lower than the generally accepted benchmark of 10 for VIF values, and 6 for mean VIF values [47][48][49][50][51][52]. Subsequently, the VIF and the cross-sectional dependence test (CSD) should have been calculated.…”

“…BEVs have a crucial role in the reduction of GHG emissions [314]. It is mentioned that the presence of EVs is correlated with the reduction in premature mortality caused by air pollution [315]. United States has a national policy of reducing oil dependency and thereby GHG emissions by replacing ICEs with EVs.…”
