“…Of these cases, 70% were iatrogenic and occurred as a complication after surgical treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. We reviewed another 21 additional cases of TTS [1,5,4,7,12,16,17,19,21,23,28] (Table 1). Twenty-seven cases were associated with injections of alcohol into the gasserian ganglion and four cases with electrocoagulation.…”

“…The highest incidence of TTS was related to trigeminal rhizotomy (39 cases). However, if we leave out the youngest patient, a 14-month-old boy suspected to have TTS after herpes simplex labialis [12], the mean age increases to 64 years (range: 25 to 87 years). About 11% (11 cases) de-veloped after ischemic lesions in the trigeminal ganglion, e.g., stroke [6,14] or Wallenberg's syndrome [19].…”

“…4 Trigeminal trophic syndrome manifests itself as a unilateral crescent-shaped ulceration around the nasal ala, but in severe cases, there may be involvement of the jaw, forehead, cheek, and lip. We know of only 3 previously reported pediatric cases, [5][6][7] and, to our knowledge, TTS has never been successfully treated with a vacuum-dressing device.…”
