“…[12] Femoral type hernia substantially leads to incarceration and strangulation, and thus requires intestinal resection. [13,14] Among the hernia types, intestinal necrosis is most commonly encountered in femoral hernias. However, no significant effect of the hernia type on mortality and morbidity has been demonstrated.…”

“…Uncommon contents of femoral hernia sacs, such as caecum, colon, appendix, Meckel's diverticulum (Littre hernia), testis, ovary, and even stomach or kidney, have been reported [1]. Femoral hernia is often associated with incarceration or strangulation [2,3]. A left side femoral hernia containing ascending colon, transverse colon, caecum, appendix and distal ileum as the contents has been reported only once, and the contents were found to be strangulated and gangrenous [4].…”

“…Of the 5 obstructed femoral hernias, 4 occurred in female and in male, showing the fact that femoral hernia is mostly seen among female gender [13] . Abdominal hernias are found to account for around 8%-25% of all cases of intestinal obstruction, [14,15] while in a few series they represent the most common cause of intestinal obstruction. [[16,17] Moreover, they still remain the most common cause for bowel strangulation and ischaemia.…”
