Heritability estimates and genetic correlations of various production and reproductive traits of different grades of dairy cattle reared under subtropical condition

Abstract: Inheritance of economic traits and their genetic correlation was studied in different breeds and their various grades (crossbred’s cattle) under the subtropical condition. Data on principal parameters comprising 10 years, that is 2004–2014, were utilized for the present study. Different grades of dairy cows comprising Holstein Friesian (HF), Sahiwal x Friesian (SxHF), Jersey (J), Jersey x Achai (JxAC) and Achai (AC) were included in the study. Heritability estimates and genetic correlations of some important p… Show more

“…The heritability estimates obtained in the present study are in agreement with those recently reported by other authors, with values ranging from 0.03 to 0.09 for DO, 0.02 to 0.07 for CI and 0.03 to 0.07 for DPR (Ali et al., 2019; Gibson & Dechow, 2018; Haile‐Mariam et al., 2013) . Despite the low heritability values, different countries have considered the importance of including reproductive traits in breeding objectives as a strategy to overcome the decline of reproductive performance of cows in dairy herds (Cole & VanRaden, 2018; Miglior et al, 2017; Miglior et al., 2005).…”

“…За даними (Ali et al, 2019), коефіцієнт успадковуваності (h 2 ) інтервалу DO у різних порід худоби становив 0,09 ± 0,121, також виявлено достовірну генетичну кореляцію між DO та надоєм за лактацію (r = 0,24; p ≤ 0,01). Це означає, що селекція на збільшення надою впливає на збільшення тривалості DO.…”

“…In general, the heritability explains the difference among individual cows associated with genetic variance (Ali et al, 2019). Therefore, the low heritability estimates of traits indicate that the influence of herd management and other environmental factors were greater than the genetic background (Badr and Amer, 2020).…”
