Abstract: This article examines the debate between honoring the agency of the teller of personal stories and honoring the stories themselves as legitimate objects of critical inquiry. It takes an autoethnographic monologue of a woman who has recently experienced homelessness from zAmya Theatre Project’s community-based play Housed and Homeless (From the Very Same Cup) as an extended case study and employs multiple existing models of analyzing autoethnographic performance, critiquing each model in turn, and assessing the… Show more

“…Descriptions of the case were often not adequate to ascertain why the case was selected, or whether it was a particular exemplar or outlier (Thomas, 2011). In a number of case studies in the health and social science categories, it was not explicit whether the case was of something particular, or peculiar to their discipline or field (Adamson & Holloway, 2012; Bronken et al, 2012; Colón-Emeric et al, 2010; Jackson, Botelho, Welch, Joseph, & Tennstedt, 2012; Mawn et al, 2010; Snyder-Young, 2011). “…Triangulation of sources was used to reveal as much depth as possible in the study by Nagar-Ron and Motzafi-Haller (2011), while also enhancing confirmation validity. There were several case studies that would have benefited from improved range and use of data sources, and descriptions of researcher–case interactions (Ajodhia-Andrews & Berman, 2009; Bronken et al, 2012; Fincham, Scourfield, & Langer, 2008; Fourie & Theron, 2012; Hooghe et al, 2012; Snyder-Young, 2011; Yeh, 2013). …”

“…Esta ausencia de praxis tiene su correlato en la investigación científica: salvo notables excepciones (Campo-Tejedor et al, 2019;Ducca Cisneros, 2020;Gallagher, 2016;Snyder-Young, 2011;Wrentschur, 2008), existe un "vacío epistemológico" en la materia. En las bases de datos internacionales apenas hay estudios que se interesen específicamente por la inclusión de las personas sin hogar en las artes, sea con fines profesionales o artísticos.…”
