Hepatoprotective effects and mechanisms of Ixeris denticulate water extract on liver cirrhosis in experimental rat

Abstract: Background: To explore the protective effect and mechanisms of Ixeris denticulate water extract (IDWE) in the development of liver cirrhosis in experimental rat. Methods: Sixty rats were randomly divided into five groups: control group, model group and IDWE (2, 4 and 8 g/ kg) treatment groups. Alanine transferase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), albumin (ALB), tumor necrosis factoralpha (TNF-α), Interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-8 in serum and superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA) in liver tissue were … Show more

“…Hepatocyte apoptosis plays a key role in the incidence of a variety of liver pathologies. 44 When the liver is stimulated by injury factors, such as toxic chemicals or virus infection, it activates the death process of hepatocytes, which results in the production of numerous apoptotic bodies. Apoptotic receptors and many other inflammatory factors can further enhance the hepatocyte's apoptosis and initiate inflammation, leading to the initiation of liver fibrosis.…”

“…The later stage of LC is prone to form enterogenous endotoxemia to activate hepatic mononuclear macrophages releasing inflammatory factors such as TNF‐α, IL‐8, IL‐6, thereby leading to a cascade reaction of inflammatory factors. 21 Endotoxemia often triggers abundant inflammatory responses and activation of the coagulation cascade. 22 During endotoxin shock, neutrophils can lead to multiple organ dysfunction and death through overproducing proinflammatory cytokines and release excessive NETs.…”

“…Oxidative stress, inflammatory response and apoptosis are the major pathological characteristics during the progression of liver fibrosis ( Zhu et al, 2020 ). We further evaluated the effects of geniposide on oxidative stress, inflammatory response and apoptosis in liver fibrosis mice.…”
