The aim of the study was to investigate the hepatoprotective properties of the conjugate of the xymedon drug substance with succinic acid (1a). The study presents an in vitro comparative evaluation of the cytotoxicity and cytoprotective properties of 1a and succinic acid on a cell line of normal human hepatocytes Chang Liver, and in vivo investigation of the ability of 1a to restore liver from the toxic damage caused by CCl4 in Wistar rats. It was shown that the cytotoxicity of 1a was 19.9 ± 0.8 mmol/L, and that of succinic acid was 14.1 ± 0.2 mmol/L. Against the background of d‐galactosamine exposure, the cytoprotective effect of 1a was found to be superior to that of succinic acid. It was shown that 1a caused a significant reduction in necrotic and steatosis changes in the liver and restoration of biochemical markers of cytolysis, as well as bilirubin metabolism and synthetic liver function.

Functional foods containing probiotics and/or prebiotics are of scientific and practical importance. The method of pre-activating bifidobacteria before their use in the production of fermented milk products has a profound impact on enhancing the quality of the resulting products. Finding ways to shorten the activation time of bifidobacteria in the production of functional foods with probiotics is an urgent task. Shortening the activation time and optimizing enzyme systems of bifidobacteria with antioxidants are crucial for innovative probiotic fermented milk technology. The object of this research is the technology of fermented acidophilic products enriched with bifidobacteria activated using Prunus padus (bird cherry) extract, known for its antioxidant properties. The finished product showed a significant increase in bifidobacteria count, reaching 1×109 CFU, and a 25.7 % boost in L. acidophilus after 7 days. Furthermore, the activation of bifidobacteria by Prunus padus extract resulted in a threefold increase in the histidine content and increased the content of oleic, eicosanoic, linoleic, arachidonic, and docosahexaenoic acids by 10.0 %, 26.4 %, 14.4 %, 22.6 %, and 66.6 % in the experimental sample compared to the control sample, respectively. Moreover, pentadecanoic, selacholeic, eicosatrienoic acids and tyrosine were present in the experimental but not in the control sample. Microbiological safety tests found no pathogenic microorganisms in the fermented acidophilic product, yet lactic acid microorganism levels exceeded norms in the experimental sample, confirming the product's probiotic properties and high physiological value. Thus, the developed product is characterized by better taste, a longer shelf life, and the preservation of bacterial titers

Inonotus obliquus , also known as Chaga, is a medicinal mushroom that has been used for therapeutic purposes since the sixteenth century. Collections of folk medicine record the application of Chaga for the treatment of diseases such as gastrointestinal cancer, diabetes, bacterial infection, and liver diseases. Modern research provides scientific evidence of the therapeutic properties of I. obliquus extracts, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, anti-diabetic, anti-obesity, hepatoprotective, renoprotective, anti-fatigue, antibacterial, and antiviral activities. Various bioactive compounds, including polysaccharides, triterpenoids, polyphenols, and lignin metabolites have been found to be responsible for the health-benefiting properties of I. obliquus . Furthermore, some studies have elucidated the underlying mechanisms of the mushroom’s medicinal effects, revealing the compounds’ interactions with enzymes or proteins of important pathways. Thus, this review aims to explore available information on the therapeutic potentials of Inonotus obliquus for the development of an effective naturally sourced treatment option.
