Hepatocellular adenoma: An update

Abstract: Hepatocellular adenomas (HCA) are rare benign liver tumors. Recent technological advancements have helped in the early identification of such lesions. However, precise diagnosis of hepatocellular incidentalomas remains challenging. Studies at the molecular level have provided new insights into the genetics and pathophysiology of these lesions. These in turn have raised questions over their existing management modalities. However, the rarity of the tumor still restricts the quality of evidence available for curr… Show more

“…Hepatocellular adenomas (HCAs) is a very rare disease with malignant potential in Asian, but is highly prevalent in Europe [1]. The annual incidence of HCA is estimated to be 1/10 6 among all population and 3 to 4 per 100,000 women with long-term use of oral contraceptives [2,3].…”

“…HCA is a rare monoclonal benign liver tumor, which originates in the epithelium and usually develops within a healthy liver (18). HCA is more prevalent in females than in males and the use of oral contraceptives and anabolic steroids are established risk factors for the disease (19). Recent research has focused on the etiology, clinical manifestations and diagnosis of HCA (19).…”

Recent research has focused on the etiology, clinical manifestations and diagnosis of HCA (19). However, its functionality as a liver-derived tumor is rarely characterized.…”

“…Hepatic adenoma (HA) is a rare, benign tumor of epithelial origin (2% of all liver tumors [1]) that develops usually in healthy liver [2] and is known to occur mainly in young female patients, having been linked to the prolonged use of oral contraceptives [3]. In Europe and North America, it has an incidence of 3/100,000/ year [4].…”
