Hepatitis B: a perspective

Abstract

HepatitiS B is becoming increasingly common in the community. Carriers are generally difficult to identify in dental practice, and therefore preventing transmission of the disease depends primarily on sound general clinical hygiene. ' Cossart YE. Hepatitis B virus carrier groups and the Australian community

“…Although it is not possible to identify all carriers, qractical and effective guidelines for screening patients are possible. The aims of this communication are: (1) to summarize the widespread literature concerned with the prevalence of HBV in specific groups relevant to the Australian community; (2) to identify key issues which determine whether these groups require screening; and (3) to suggest practical screening guidelines for dental practice.…”
