The dierential adduct formation in the blood and liver DNA was a surprising ®nding given the fact that hematopoietic cells comprise more than 40% of the total liver cell population during the ®rst four postnatal days (Nagel 1968;Larroche et al 1971), and that some of these are immature nucleated erythroids that are as active as the neonatal hepatocytes in xenobiotic metabolism (Salhab et al 1987). It is possible that DNA-adducted cells in the blood originated in the liver but further studies will be necessary to resolve the question.…”
