The altitude of the habitat is one of the important regulators of species survival. Kaçkar Mountains National Park is located in the Eastern Black Sea region of Turkey. This is the first study on the benthic diatom flora of the high mountain lakes in Kaçkar Mountains National Park, which is situated between 2782 and 3075 m a.s.l. A total of 84 diatom species were identified from benthic communities of 15 habitats in summer (19 July, 28 August) and autumn (10 September) months of 2020. The genus Pinnularia (thirteen species) formed the basis of the taxonomic list, followed by Eunotia (five species), Navicula (five species), and Frustulia (four species) genera, respectively. The waters in all the studied lakes were fresh, low-saline, with low-alkaline or circumneutral pH and organically uncontaminated, as evidenced by prevailed bioindicator groups. Statistical methods and comparative floristic results confirm the role of the lake altitude for the diatom species distribution. The species richness of the studied lakes was higher in lakes with lower altitudes. The statistical approach also revealed the potential for an increase in the number of species in high mountain lakes if the study of the diatom flora of the Kachkar Mountains National Park is continued and the species composition of the lakes is replenished. Further studies will be needed to continue exploring this pattern. To protect studied high mountain lakes, their ecological conditions must be constantly monitored in the Kaçkar Mountains National Park.

Daskyleion Höyüğü ve çevresinde delgi sondaj yöntemli ilk paleocoğrafya-jeoarkeoloji araştırmalarımız 2022 yaz döneminde 18 ve 24 Temmuz 2022 tarihleri arasında gerçekleştirilmiştir. Daskyleion antik kentindeki ilk yerleşimin, bazı antik yazarlara göre MÖ 12. Yüzyıla kadar gittiği ifade edilmekle birlikte, antik kent tarihini daha eskiye yani Kalkolitik Döneme götüren buluntular yüzey araştırmalarında gözlenmiştir. Tarihi bu kadar eskiye uzanan Daskyleion’un coğrafi çevresi geçen süre içinde kuşkusuz önemli değişiklikler göstermiştir. Bu değişmelerin belirlenmesi amacıyla başladığımız çalışmalarımızda çevrede 12 adet delgi sondaj yapılmıştır. Sondaj verileri ve genel bilgilerimiz, gözlemlerimizle birlikte değerlendirilerek ilk ön sonuçlarımız bu yazının içeriğini oluşturmuştur. Manyas Gölü kıyısında ve gölün ayağını oluşturan Karaçay’ın yakınında bulunması nedeniyle, Daskyleion çevresinde meydana gelen coğrafi değişmeler üzerinde, bu su kaynaklarının etkisi büyüktür. Özellikle Manyas Gölü seviye değişmeleri ile alüvyal birikime bağlı kıyı çizgisindeki değişmelerin, antik kent ve sakinleri için önemi fazladır. Karaçay’ın akım özellikleri ve taşkınları da aynı şekilde antik kent açısından önem taşımaktadır. Tarihsel süreçte meydana gelen bu etkilerin ve değişmelerin belirlenmesi, büyük ölçüde Daskyleion çevresindeki genç birikimlerin ayrıntılı incelenmesi ile ortaya konulabilecektir. İşte bu amaçla genç dolgular içinde yaptığımız alüvyon delgi sondajları, bize önemli bilgiler sağlamıştır. Bu çalışmalarımız sonucunda Daskyleion kentinin Neojen (Pliyosen) anakayadan oluşan bir tepe üzerinde kurulduğu, kabaca yayılış alanı ve ilk yerleşildiği dönemde göl kıyılarının uzanışı ortaya konmuş, seviye ve kıyı çizgisi değişmeleri yorumlanmıştır. Ancak henüz C14 analizlerimiz bulunmadığı için, bu gelişmelerin zamanı hakkında, bu alanda daha önce yapılan araştırmalardaki tarihleme analiz sonuçlarından yararlanılmıştır.

The lake, which has a surface area of 1800 hectares, is located in a 7 X 2.5 km depression formed as a result of tectonic activities in the early Quaternary period, and it is 976 meters above sea level (Erinç et al, 1962). The objective of this study is to determine the relationship between zooplankton biomass and the factors that affect it and to assess the trophic status in Yeniçağa Lake, Turkey. For this purpose, chlorophyll-a values were used as the bottom-up effect, while planktivorous fish CPUE was used as the top-down effect. Additionally, to understand which nutrient has a stronger impact on chlorophyll-a, total nitrogen, and total phosphorus values were determined. Structural Equation Modeling was used to examine the bottom-up and top-down relationships, and it was understood that Cladocera, Calanoida, and Rotifera groups were negatively controlled by bottom-up effects, while Calanoida is negatively controlled and Cyclopoida and Rotifera are positively controlled by top-down effects. Moreover, it was understood that chlorophyll-a is influenced by both total nitrogen and total phosphorus, with a higher impact of total nitrogen. To determine the trophic status, chlorophyll-a, total phosphorus, Secchi depth, and Carlson TSI Indices obtained from these values were used. According to the findings from these values, the lake can be considered to be at the eutrophic level with a hypertrophic tendency.
