“…It is well known that VEPs and AEPs constitute responses with different morphology and generators, and that results from one modality cannot be generalized easily to the other. In fact, multimodal studies have failed to observe A0R correlation between the visual and auditory modalities~Blenner & Yingling, 1993; Buchsbaum et al, 1983;Kaskey, Salzman, Klorman, & Pass, 1980;Lolas, Collin, Camposano, Etcheberrigaray, & Rees, 1987;Raine, Mitchell, & Venables, 1981!. Given the relevance of intensity range in the definition of A0R~see Carrillo-de-la-Peña, 1992 for a review!, it is possible that the discrepancy stems from the use of stimuli not comparable in intensity in both modalities.…”

“…Temporal stability (i.e., test-retest reliability) of the ASF-slopes from the two recording sessions was examined by Pearson correlations on the ASF-slopes. To address the issue of recording sites in augmenting/reducing (e. g., Lolas et al, 1987), intercorrelations between slopes derived at C3, Cz, and C4 were computed. Hemispheric differences for the baseline-to-peak and peak-to-peak determined slopes were evaluated by repeated measures analyses of variance (ANOVA), with recording site (C3, Cz, C4) and recording session (1, 2) as within-subjects factors.…”

“…For a male sample they found more augmenting over the right hemisphere (C4) as compared to the left hemisphere (C3). Several reports on the relationship of augmenting/reducing to personality traits found that results varied across the analyzed scalp sites (e. g., Brocke et al, 1999;Zuckerman, 1990), but these studies did not investigate the specific findings of Lolas et al (1987). In the absence of corroborative evidence for the laterality effects reported by Lolas et al (1987) and an explicit hypothesis about their importance, the reliability of augmenting/reducing will be investigated for all three central sites (C3, Cz, C4).…”

“…Still data are lacking in which visual, auditory, and kinesthetic EPs are compared with each other when measuring augmentingheducing. The inconsistency in diagnosing augmentingheducing increases when different leads of EPs and/or different components of EP amplitudes are taken into account (see Lolas, Collin, Camposano, Etcheberrigaray and Rees, 1987;Lukas, 1987;Stenberg et al, 1988). As Stenberg, Rosen and Risberg (1990) have shown, the same holds true when EP amplitudes are recorded under different conditions (attend vs. ignore conditions).…”
