Internal hemipelvectomy (IH) is a newer surgical choice for pelvic tumors. It involves resection of the tumor, reconstruction of the pelvis without sacrificing the neurovascular structures, and preservation of the lower limb. We aimed to describe first experience with IH in primary pelvic tumors in Peru. Four patients aged 17 to 49 years old at the time of diagnosis were included. 75% were chondrosarcomas, and 25% were chondroblastomas. The IH types were 50% type II, 25% type I-A, and 25% type III. The neoplasm sizes differed from 5 cm to more than 20 cm. Postoperative complications were right hip arthrosis, transient urinary incontinence, and abdominal eventration. Fifty percent had local recurrence, with a recurrence mean time of 24 months. As a first attempt at this technique in Peru, IH had promising results with a 100% overall survival at 30 months. However, more studies are required to analyze the factors associated with a high rate of recurrence (50%).

RESUMO.O condrossarcoma é uma neoplasia óssea com características malignas, que se desenvolve a partir dos tecidos cartilaginosos, classificado na categoria dos sarcomas, está entre os três tumores que mais acometem a região pélvica dos cães. O objetivo deste relato é descrever o caso de um condrossarcoma localizado na articulação sacro-ilíaca direita num paciente canino, fêmea, de 8 anos de idade, da raça Pastor Alemão. Salientando a importância do exame radiográfico na conclusão diagnóstica, ressaltando que o exame histopatológico é o exame de predileção para o diagnóstico definitivo desta afecção. Chondrosarcoma is a malignant neoplasm of bone that develops from the cartilaginous tissues, classified in the category of sarcomas, among the three tumors that most affect the pelvic region of dogs. The objective of this report was to describe the case of a chondrosarcoma located in the right sacroiliac joint in an 8-year-old female canine patient of the German shepherd breed. In this way, we emphasize the importance of the radiographic examination in the diagnostic conclusion, emphasizing that the histopathological examination is the examination of predilection for the definitive diagnosis of this affection.
