Helmholtz coils model as pulsed electromagnetic field therapy devices for fracture healing using comsol multiphysics

Abstract: The World Health Organization in 2009 recorded that more than a million people died due to accidents, and about 2 million people had physical accidents, namely fractures. The main challenge for clinicians today is finding an effective and inexpensive method of fracture healing. In this case, a pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) can be used, which is a non-invasive technique that is inductive and generates a magnetic field due to changes in the electric field. So this research aims to create a simulation desig… Show more

“…The magnetic flux density occurring in the intercoil gap at different DC currents (I = 1-3 A) was simulated using the finite element method (FEM) by COMSOL Multiphysics (6.0). The ability of COMSOL to simulate the magnetic properties of Helmholtz coils has been demonstrated in many previous studies [12][13][14]. The simulation of the magnetic field is based on the implemented module "Physics of Magnetic Fields".…”

“…In this study, a Helmholtz coil is used and examined regarding the homogeneity of the magnetic field. There are numerous studies in the literature on the simulation of the magnetic field of Helmholtz coils with COMSOL Multiphysics [10][11][12]. Therefore, in this study, the homogeneity of the magnetic field generated by the coils was simulated using the finite element method (FEM) by COMSOL Multiphysics and was additionally determined experimentally using a Hall probe.…”

“…Hasil penelitian ini sesuai dengan simulasi yang dilakukan oleh nismayanti dkk [14] dan sesuai dengan hukum Biotsavart [15] bahwa besar medan magnet B pada jarak X dari pusat lingkaran sepanjang sumbu Koil adalah sebanding dengan jumlah lilitan dan arus serta berbanding terbalik dengan jarak antara kumparan,…”

“…Anna et al [ 10 ] designed a cost-effective compensation system based on a square Helmholtz coil and successfully used it for preliminary measurements of zero-field OPM (optically pumped magnetometers). Ramos et al [ 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 ] analyzed the uniformity of the volume away from the central axis and considered varying the spacing of different Helmholtz coils to expand the uniform field region. Panthinuan et al [ 15 , 16 , 17 ], on the other hand, designed different structures to improve the uniformity of the magnetic field.…”
