Helitron’s Periodicities Identification in C.Elegans based on the Smoothed Spectral Analysis and the Frequency Chaos Game Signal Coding

Abstract: Abstract-Helitrons are typical rolling circle transposons which make up the bulk of eukaryotic genomes. Unlike of other DNA transposons, these transposable elements (TEs), don't create target site duplications or end in inverted repeats, which make them particular challenge to identify and more difficult to annotate. To date, these elements are not well studied; they only attracted the interest of researchers in biology. The focus of this paper is oriented towards identifying the helitrons in C.elegans genome … Show more

“…Many algorithms, using various knowledge fields, have been implemented for repetitive sequences localization. In this context, signal processing approaches were used to detect repetitive sequences, according to the correspondent periodicity [ [25] , [26] , [27] , [28] , [29] ]. In this paper, we propose an efficient algorithm based on the signal and image processing tools to localize repetitive DNA sequences.…”

“…In this sense, the spectral analysis based on the exact periodic subspace decomposition and the autoregressive model (AR) were carried out [27]. On the other hand, methods providing a time-frequency representation have been proposed [29], [30]. Thus, the Short Time Fourier transform [28] and the Complex Morlet wavelet transform was used for patterns visualization [31], [32].…”
