Heightened Amygdala Long-Term Potentiation in Neurotensin Receptor Type-1 Knockout Mice

Abstract: Neurotensin receptor type-1 (Ntsr1) is the main receptor subtype that underlies neurotensin (NT)-mediated modulation of the dopamine (DA) system. Although NT and DA coexist in the basolateral nucleus of the amygdala (BLA), the function of Ntsr1 in the amygdala is not well characterized. In the present study, we utilized Ntsr1 knockout (Ntsr1-KO) mice to examine the role of Ntsr1 in the amygdala. In acute brain slices of Ntsr1-KO mice, synaptic currents elicited in BLA pyramidal neurons by electrical stimulatio… Show more

“…Indeed, photostimulation of LH neurotensin neuron terminals in the VTA robustly supported positive reinforcement (Kempadoo et al, 2013). In contrast, neurotensin has also been linked to fear conditioning (Amano et al, 2008). Neurotensin is thought to play a role in modulating glutamatergic transmission (Ferraro et al, 2008).…”

“…85,86 Both NTR 1 and NTR 2 are present on neurons in brain regions known to be associated with seizure activity, including basolateral amygdala and hippocampus. 87 There is still little known about how NT receptors mediate the anticonvulsant properties of NT.…”

“…Because patch‐clamp recordings in marmoset brain slices have not previously been reported, we here describe our method in detail. Brain slice preparation and patch‐clamp recordings were performed as reported previously (Zushida et al 2007; Amano et al 2008; Sekiguchi et al 2009), with minor modifications. Marmosets were anaesthetized with ketamine and administered an overdose of pentobarbital.…”
