“…On the other hand, Avitabile et al [46] defended the use of Densiron as the tamponade of choice, maintaining retinal reapplication in 87% of the cases after Densiron extraction compared to 53% after standard silicone oil extraction. A fundamental step when using microincision vitrectomy surgery is choosing a low-viscosity silicone oil to facilitate both injection and extraction.…”

“…Success rates with vitrectomy appear in general to be better than those following a simple pneumatic procedure, especially if all epiretinal membranes are successfully removed during the former operation [ 29 ]. The value of removing ILM remains somewhat uncertain [ 29 ], although a relatively recent report [ 35 ] in which "double peeling" of cortical vitreous and ILM with triamcinolone and trypan blue, respectively, demonstrated higher reattachment rates and better visual acuities in the cases managed in this fashion.…”

“…Silicone oil has a success rate ranging from 66.6% to 100% [53, 54, 65, 66]. High-density silicone oils were compared with standard silicone oil by Avitabile et al [67] and Mete et al [68]. The former reported a better anatomical success rate with Densiron than silicone oil in situ, whereas the latter stated that silicone oil and Densiron seemed equally good surgical options since no statistically significant difference in RD was detected.…”
