Heat‐transfer fouling mitigation with model synthetic fibre suspensions

Abstract: Suspensions of model polymer fibres at a fixed concentration and flow rate have been shown to mitigate heat-transfer fouling. The results are in general agreement with previous studies using wood pulp fibre suspensions under the same conditions. Stiffer and shorter fibres were found to increase the initial induction period before the onset of fouling. Longer and more flexible fibres reduced the ultimate thickness of the fouling deposit as well as the ultimate asymptotic level of fouling resistance. 
