Heat Transfer Augmentation through Different Jet Impingement Techniques: A State-of-the-Art Review

Abstract: Jet impingement is considered to be an effective technique to enhance the heat transfer rate, and it finds many applications in the scientific and industrial horizons. The objective of this paper is to summarize heat transfer enhancement through different jet impingement methods and provide a platform for identifying the scope for future work. This study reviews various experimental and numerical studies of jet impingement methods for thermal-hydraulic improvement of heat transfer surfaces. The jet impingement… Show more

“…At a time of 0.1 s, the downward stream of liquid hydrogen contacted the bottom of the storage tank, and the stream direction changed from vertical to horizontal. The stream exhibited jet impingement hydrodynamics [21]. Liquid hydrogen with horizontal momentum spread to the left and right in a thin layer, creating a wall jet area on the bottom wall of the storage tank.…”

“…Nevertheless, in the introduction, which is the background of the current review, it is impossible not to pay attention to the issues related to energy demand, which is the cost of maintaining high air quality and/or thermal comfort. Various technologies for heat recovery [2], or methods of intensifying heat exchange in system components [3][4][5], as well as the use of decentralized ventilation systems [6][7][8][9] or earth-to-air heat exchangers [10,11], positively affect the reduction in energy consumption in the energy audit of the building [12]. The energy-saving effect can also be obtained by using heat recovery from domestic hot water [13][14][15][16], but it is easier to achieve it in mechanical ventilation systems [17].…”

“…Since jet impingement is frequently used in the industry for cooling, drying, annealing, and tempering, it has been an area of interest for many researchers. Many review papers have documented this topic in detail, e.g., Ekkad and Singh (2021), Hussain et al (2021). Experimental investigation on the single jet impingement into a flat plate can be found in Cooper et al (1993), Yao et al (2015), Kim (1993), Tummers et al (2011), El Hassan et al (2012, Meslem et al (2013).…”
