Heat Transfer at the Bottom of a Cylindrical Vessel Impinged by a Swirling Flow from an Impeller in a Draft Tube

Abstract: Heat transfer at the bottom of a cylindrical vessel impinged by a flow with tangential velocity component generated by an axial-flow impeller in a draft tube was measured using the electrodiffusion experimental method. Local values of the Nusselt numbers along the radial coordinate of the heat transfer surface and corresponding mean values are presented for relatively small distances of the draft tube from the impinged surface (0.25 ≤ h / d ≤ 1). Such small distances are typical for mixing of liquids, which en… Show more

“…In general, such similarities can be found only in regions where the flow is aligned with the vessel wall. Such regions are larger in configurations with an impeller placed in a draft tube [25], or in cases with axial-flow impellers and larger H/D ratio.…”

“…Many empirical correlations were presented for power consumption (Nagata, 1975;Stręk, 1981), heat transfer (Kuncewicz, 2012;Stręk, 1981) and mass transfer (Harnby et al, 1997), as well as for multiphase systems (Kamieński, 2004;Tatterson, 1991). Recently, experimental studies have been developed on momentum transfer (Cudak et al, 2016), power consumption (Major-Godlewska and Karcz, 2018), heat transfer (Petera et al, 2017;Rosa et al, 2020), multi-phase system production (Cudak, 2016, Cudak et al, 2019Kiełbus-Rąpała et al, 2019), gas hold-up (Busciglio et al, 2017;Cudak, 2020;Lee and Dudukovic, 2014) and mass transfer (Kracik et al, 2020;Petricek et al, 2018).…”

“…The stronger the mass transfer of the ions, the higher are the measured values of the current [5]. This method for measuring local values of the heat transfer coefficient was used, for example, by Petera et al [6] in the measurement of the local heat transfer coefficients at the bottom of the agitated vessel on which the jet of water was falling. The impinging jet was formed by an agitator that was placed in the draft tube.…”
