“…HSP70 is one of the most important family of 70‐kDa chaperones which functions in mitigating cellular apoptosis and oxidative stress during heat stress (Li et al, ; Padmini & Tharani, ). Rising water temperatures have resulted in high expression of HSP70 in a wide variety of fish (Sørensen, Kristensen, & Loeschke, ) and shellfish species, including oysters (Bonaventura et al, ; Farcy, Voiseux, Lebel, & Fievet, ; Ueda et al, ). Previous studies have shown that short‐term exposure to higher temperatures (28 and 32°C for 1 week) not only increases HSP70 expression in testicular tissues (e.g., Atlantic sea urchin; Johnstone et al, ), but also increases its expression in whole embryos of purple sea urchin (Roccheri, Di Bernardo, & Giudice, ), embryonic cells of chinook salmon (Misra, Zafarullah, Price‐Haughey, & Gedamu, ) and hepatocytes of rainbow trout (Boone & Vijayan, ).…”
