Heat inactivation of cucumber mosaic virus in cultured tissues of Stellaria media

Abstract: SUMMARY In vivo heat inactivation of cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) was studied in a low‐temperature‐tolerant species, Stellaria media. Infectivity remained high in infected 5. media cultures grown at 25 °C or less, but could not be detected in cultures incubated at 32 °C for 28 days. When infected tissues were grown at 12–32 °C for 24 days, virus was still detectable at a low level in cultures incubated at 30 °C. The highest level of infectivity was in cultures at 12 °C.
