Heat Flow in the Campos Sedimentary Basin and Thermal History of the Continental Margin of Southeast Brazil

Abstract: Bottom-hole temperatures and physical properties derived from geophysical logs of deep oil wells have been employed in assessment of the geothermal field of the Campos basin, situated in the continental margin of southeast Brazil. The results indicate geothermal gradients in the range of 24 to 41°C/km and crustal heat flow in the range of 30 to 100 mW/m2within the study area. Maps of the regional distributions of these parameters point to arc-shaped northeast-southwest trending belts of relatively high gradien… Show more

“…Geothermal measurements have been performed for more than 1360 areas in the southeastern waters of Brazil to obtain the geothermal gradients and terrestrial heat ow values of different sedimentary basins [7][8][9] . Hamaza et al (2017) calculated the geothermal gradients and terrestrial heat ow values of the sedimentary basins along the Brazilian continental margin using corrected bottom hole temperature data and thermophysical parameters of rocks.…”

“…It is worth noting that the temperature in reservoirs can reach over 100 °C, but the gel used for the fracture process is nowhere close to such a level of temperature, except when it enters the oil well. (For more details, see [8].) At this point, the fracturing process is ended.…”
