Heat evolution due to cement hydration in foamed concrete

Abstract: Foamed concrete is nowadays considered an attractive building material as a result of flexible production technology and excellent target properties, along with economic benefits. Heat generated in foamed concrete during cement hydration is found to differ significantly from normal-weight concrete. Foamed concrete that is placed in a regular-shaped well-insulated mould experiences significant core temperature rises and, although several documents discussing the thermal effect in foamed concrete have been publi… Show more

“…With the possibility of producing a wide range of densities (400-1600) kg/m 3 and also of achieving a strength of at least 25 MPa, foamed concrete has the potential to fulfil these requirements and it is now widely used in the construction industry [4], [5]. Furthermore, with foamed concrete, sustainability can be enhanced because no coarse aggregate is required in its manufacturing and there is also the possibility of partially or fully replacing fine aggregate with recycled or secondary materials [6].…”

“…Энергия разрушения как параметр прочности привлекает внимание исследователей фундаментальностью, практической важностью, дает возможность разработать в рамках механики разрушения подходы, позволяющие технологам указать оптимальные пути создания конструкционных бетонов нового поколения и реализовать основную идею разработки композиционных строительных материалов, которая заключается в соединении высокой прочности материала с хорошей трещиностойкостью (вязкостью разрушения) [19][20][21].…”

“…Regarding these problems, Jones [11] stated that the heat evolution in foamed concrete is affected by a greater number of parameters than that in normal-weight concrete. Tarasov [15] studied the influence of the density and the volume of the castings and of fine aggregates on the temperature profiles in foamed concrete. However, the effect of hydration heat on the strength development of foamed concrete was not considered, and the experiments were carried out in the laboratory without considering external influencing factors.…”
