Heart/Cardiac Muscle

Abstract: Journal of Physiology (1995) 483 These data show that action potential duration is longer in base endocardial than in apex epicardial myocytes from the guinea-pig. The faster rate of relaxation and greater decay of contraction after a 1 min rest seen in basal endocardium cells suggest that calcium removal from the cytosolic compartment (into the SR and/or the extracellular space) may be more rapid in base endocardium than in apex epicardium cells.
