Introduction: Health care generates biomedical waste that present risks to humans and the environment if poorly managed. The objective of this study was to assess the management practices of solid biomedical waste in southern Benin. Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in six health facilities. The study included 12 administrative agents selected by reasoned choice and 431 health care agents selected by convenience. The data were collected by questionnaire, interview, and observation. They concerned variables related to the production, the practice of managing, knowledge of the impact of solid biomedical waste on the environment and health, training and protection of personnel. Data analysis was done with R 4.5.0 software. Quantitative variables were described by median and interquartile range. Proportions were compared with the chi-square test or that of Fisher at the threshold of 0.05. Results: The health facilities did not have solid biomedical waste management database. Sorting was not systematic in 59.5 %. Final storage locations did not meet standards. Almost one in four health workers (24.4 %) were injured by biomedical waste. Overall, 45.8 % of the staff had been trained at least once on biomedical waste management. 61 % of the staff surveyed were vaccinated, hepatitis B (41.3 %), tetanus (32.9 %). Conclusion: In view of the results, it is necessary to ensure the on ongoing awareness and training of medical staff in the sorting and packaging of biomedical waste and to set up an efficient and sustainable solid biomedical waste management system with effective monitoring mechanisms.

It is important to disseminate information about medical waste in health care facilities to provide knowledge and skills for paramedics, patients and the general public so that medical waste generated from each service facility can be managed properly and in accordance with applicable laws. When viewed from the amount of medical waste originating from health facilities, it is estimated that it will increase over time. The reason is that the number of hospitals, health centers, treatment centers, medical laboratories and health clinics is increasing. Thus, the purpose of writing this article is to determine the impact of socialization of medical waste on the handling of medical waste in health care facilities. The method used is Literature Review in a way that is used to collect data or sources related to a particular topic that can be obtained from various sources of English-language international journals sourced from the PubMeb database, Google Schola, Semantic Scholar, Emerald Insight. Search results with keywords Socialization, Medical Waste, Handling, Health Service Facilities found 50 journals that match these keywords. A total of 37 journals from journals found according to the search keywords were then screened, 10 journals were excluded because full text articles were not available. Journals that meet the inclusion range of 5 full text journals are reviewed. So the conclusion is that the dissemination of information in health care facilities is very important in providing knowledge and skills for medical professionals, patients and the general public in managing medical waste.

Background: During the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic, also known as the COVID-19 pandemic, developing and poor African countries face severe challenges in controlling infectious trash. As a result, the goal of this report is to assist decision-makers in determining the waste management approach accessible during the COVID-19 epidemic. Objective: To assess health-care waste management and associated variables in public health institutions in Hadiya Zone, Southern Ethiopia, during the covid-19 pandemic. Methods: A facility-based cross-sectional study was undertaken at public health facilities in the Hadiya zone from March 15 to March 30, 2021. The information gathered was entered into EpiData software (version 3.1). SPSS software was used to conduct the analysis (version 20). We computed descriptive statistics. At 95% confidence intervals, a p-value of 0.05 was considered statistically significant for health care waste management. Results: A total of 411 people participated, with a response rate of 97.8%. The overall proportion of acceptable health care waste management was 231% (56.2%). In multivariable logistic regression, study participants with 5 years of service were 1.59 times more likely than their counterparts to handle health care waste appropriately (AOR 95% CI=1.59(1.02-2.48)). Those who received waste management training were 1.94 times more likely than their counterparts. Those who had enough PPE were 2.14 times more likely than those who did not to handle health care waste appropriately (AOR 95% ). Conclusions and Recommendation:The proportion of acceptable health care waste management was found to be low in the study. Service year, waste management training, the availability of suitable personal protective equipment (PPE), and prior wasterelated injury experience are all required. It is advised that health-care facility administration offer training and personal protection equipment for healthcare workers.
