Health-related quality of life in patients with non-communicable disease: study protocol of a cross-sectional survey

Abstract: IntroductionNon-communicable diseases (NCDs) are associated with lower health-related quality of life (HRQoL). However, knowledge about those diseases and predictors with a greater impact on patients’ HRQoL as well as knowledge on the complex relationship between HRQoL and comorbidities is lacking. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of NCDs on patients’ HRQoL, with a focus on multimorbidity and socioeconomic status. Methods and analysisA primary care-based cross-sectional study is conducted in Flande… Show more

“…We used data from a cross-sectional study (the QAPICHE study, an acronym for “quality of life in patients with chronic disease”) conducted in Flanders, Belgium. Detailed information on the study aims and methodology can be found elsewhere ( 18 ). In brief, the QAPICHE study provides insight into the HRQOL of chronically ill patients by comparing patient groups and investigating determinants.…”

“…Meeting the ambitious SDGs target 3.4 would have substantial effects on life expectancy globally [9] . However, neglected disability attributed to the four major NCDs may lead to unhealthy longevity [11,12] . Since 1990, there has been a marked shift towards a greater proportion of burden due to years lived with disability (YLDs) from NCDs [13] .…”

“…Non-communicable diseases have also been documented as a global challenge leading to diminished quality of life (QoL) [2], [7], [8]. Once considered as diseases of developed nations and ISSN: 2252-8806  affluent societies, statistics show that the non-communicable diseases are now posing a disproportionately large burden on low-and middle-income countries [9].…”
