Health-related quality of life in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension

Abstract: Background: Improved outcomes with expanding treatment options for patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension present the opportunity to consider additional end-points in approaching therapy, including factors that influence health-related quality of life. However, comparatively little is known about health-related quality of life and its determinants in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension.

“…When previously studied, multiple studies have noted QOL for patients with PAH is poor or sub-optimal, [13][14][15][16][17][18] However, to our knowledge, the incorporation of PC into a management plan for PAH has not been evaluated. To better understand the need for such an intervention, this study evaluated symptom burden, QOL, and attitudes regarding PC in a large, international sample of PAH patients and was aimed at identifying barriers to effective PC as well as characterizing opportunities to improve QOL in PAH patients.…”

“…Naing, Nanthamongkolchai, and Munsawaengsub (2010) obtained similar results in their study. On this perspective, social support satisfaction with family and friends is related to quality of life and psychological factors, such as purpose of life and stress management skills are also related to quality of life in ageing population (Brown et al, 2010;Crouchley & Daly, 2007;Gaspar & Torres, 2015;Taichman et al, 2005). Age and gender presented relevant influence in quality of life.…”
