Health Records Database and Inherent Security Concerns: A Review of the Literature

Abstract: The use of electronic health records (EHRs) has grown significantly in the past decade. Health information databases contain sensitive patient information, including their names and addresses, tests, diagnoses, treatment, and medical history. This information should be secured and protected from manipulation and fraudulent use by third parties. EHRs are expected to increase efficiency in healthcare delivery, improve healthcare quality, and relieve increased financial pressure. Despite these expected benefits, … Show more

“…Neuro-oncologists work closely with other specialists, including neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists, and medical oncologists, to provide comprehensive care for patients with brain and spinal cord tumors [2]. They use a variety of diagnostic tools, such as imaging studies and biopsies, to determine the type and stage of the tumor, and then develop a personalized treatment plan based on the patient's individual needs [3].…”

“…Damage to the cortical regions immediately around a lesion, the white matter at the depths of the lesion, and the brain tissue implicated in the surgical approach can all result in a new deficiency. Understanding the anatomical and physiological link between a lesion and the surrounding expressive brain tissue is essential to minimally morbid surgery [3,4]. Functional brain imaging reveals the anatomic localization of several brain processes, including movement, sensation, speech, and memory, as well as the white matter networks bridging important regions.…”

“…The nervous system is a complex network of cells and fibers that transmit signals between different parts of the body. The brain is the control center of the nervous system, responsible for interpreting sensory input, initiating movement, and regulating the body's internal environment [3]. The spinal cord connects the brain to the peripheral nervous system, which consists of nerves that extend throughout the body [4].…”
