Abstract:A previous paper (Thomas & Taylor, 2001) inClinical Psychology Forumdescribed the psychological issues and the main features present at the start of the health psychology service (HPS). In this paper we reflect on the HPS 11 years post establishment. Issues that are relevant to establishing a HPS in a medical setting are identified and the service is considered in the context of national guidelines.
The study demonstrates the considerable resilience of people over 30 with SCD, providing a positive and hopeful model which can be utilized clinically to support the functioning of people with SCD.
This article describes a service evaluation which was used as evidence in a bid for clinical psychology funding in haemoglobinopathies. We present the approach as a promising framework for securing funding in this difficult financial climate.
