Health insurance risk assessment using cognitive mapping and multiple‐criteria decision analysis

Abstract: Health insurance risk analysis is crucial to the development of the insurance industry, allowing insurance companies to anticipate potential losses in health insurance's inverted product life cycle. The health insurance risk evaluation process is, however, carried out in various ways, which limits the application of transparency, fairness, and justice principles in the calculation of risk rewards. By combining cognitive mapping and measuring attractiveness by a categorical-based evaluation technique (i.e., MAC… Show more

“…In 2 × D, the facilitator starts by presenting and discussing an initial list of objectives with the panel, followed by groupwork to separate "means" from "ends"-by questioning the panel about why objectives in the list are important-until the fundamental objectives emerge. This activity can be facilitated by using collaborative groupwork methods (e.g., 6-3-5 brainwriting;Rhorbach, 1969) and problem structuring interaction protocols to construct group cognitive and oval maps (Ackermann et al, 2001;Eden, 2004), improving individual knowledge and developing a shared group understanding of the key objectives (as done, e.g., in Bana e Costa et al, 1999Costa et al, , 2006Fernandes and Ferreira, 2023).…”

“…In addition, Tartarini et al have quantifed insurance risk and conducted empirical research on frost and dry heat damage to barley and soft and hard wheat in two regions of Italy to verify the evaluation index's reliability [24]. Fernandes-Hugo amd Ferreira-Fernando measured health insurance risk assessment using cognitive mapping and multicriteria decision analysis and combined cognitive mapping and the measurement of attractiveness to construct a unique nonparametric decision support system for the risk analysis of individual private health insurance [25]. Su and Yu proposed a novel method to estimate the Gerger-Shiu function in classical insurance risk models based on the expansion of the Laguerre series regarding sample claim settlement number and magnitude and verifed that the estimator tends towards a normal distribution.…”

“…Regarding health care issues, but in the context of insurance risk assessment, Fernandes and Ferreira (2020) used another MCDM/A method and constructed a DSS to calculated health insurance risk rewards. Also, in the context of public security, Velasco et al.…”
