Purpose: to identify associated factors and preventive measures for aspiration pneumonia in hospitalized elderly patients. Methods: the PPOT (population, predictor, outcome, and type of study) was the strategy used to define the eligibility criteria: (1) Population: people over 60 years of age; (2) predictor: hospitalized patients (3) Outcomes: associated factors and measures to prevent aspiration pneumonia; (4) Type of study: Observational Studies (transversal and case-control). We performed the data collection in the PubMed, Lilacs, Scielo, Google Scholar, Science Direct, and Web of Science databases. Observational studies on factors associated with aspiration pneumonia and preventive measures in the elderly, without language restriction and available in full, were included. Data on authors/year/country, objective, methodology, sample, and results, were collected. The risk of bias was assessed, according to the JBI Critical Appraisal Checklist. Results: a case-control and two cross-sectional studies were analyzed. One paper presented a smaller sample with 86 patients, and another presented a larger sample comprising 443 patients. The median age was 77 years old. Conclusion: factors such as severe stroke, dysphagia, advanced age, male gender, coronary heart disease, lower Glasgow coma scale score, use of mechanical ventilation for more than 48 hours, and aspiration of colonized gastric juice were associated with aspiration pneumonia.

Introducción: La longevidad se ha convertido en uno los mayores logros de la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Objetivo: Comparar la calidad de vida de los adultos mayores de Brasil y Portugal que reciben atención primaria de salud. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio cuantitativo transversal comparativo con una muestra probabilística de 294 adultos mayores que fueron acompañados por la estrategia de Salud Familiar y divididos en dos grupos: 130 adultos mayores ubicados en Benevides, Brasil y 164 en Coímbra, Portugal durante 2015 y 2017. La caracterización sociodemográfica y la evaluación de la calidad de vida se obtuvieron mediante el Cuestionario de Calidad de Vida de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (WHOQOL-BREF), que consta de 26 preguntas divididas en cuatro áreas: salud física, salud psicológica, relaciones sociales y ambiente. Se aplicó la prueba U de Mann-Whitney para el análisis estadístico comparativo. Resultados: En los grupos se observó el predominio de las mujeres casadas, jubiladas y con baja escolaridad (entre 1 y 4 años). La edad media fue de 70 años en Brasil y 76 años en Portugal. En cuanto a la calidad de vida, los adultos mayores brasileños obtuvieron mejores puntuaciones en el área de salud psicológica (79.1%) mientras que los adultos mayores portugueses tuvieron la mejor puntuación en el área ambiental (65.6%). Las puntuaciones más bajas se presentaron en el área ambiental en Benevides (56.3%) y en la salud física (60.7%) en Coímbra. Discusión: La calidad de vida en el proceso de envejecimiento es un importante predictor para la preservación de la autonomía de los adultos mayores. Conclusiones: Estos resultados amplían la concepción de la importancia de la atención integral en el proceso de envejecimiento para brindar una mejor calidad de vida, lo que contribuye a satisfacer las necesidades específicas de la población de edad avanzada. Background: The relationship between blood pressure (BP) and cognition is complex were age appears to be an intervening variable. High and low BP have been associated with cognitive deficits as part of the aging process, but more studies are needed, especially in more recent birth cohorts. Methods:The study sample comprised 4,465 participants, with BP measured at baseline in the Tromsø Study, Wave 6 in 2007-2008 (T0), and cognition assessed at follow-up 8 years later, in 2015-2016 in Tromsø Study 7 (T1). Age at T0 was 45-74 years, and at T1 it was 53-82 years. Cognition was assessed with three tests: The Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), the Digit Symbol Test, and the Twelve-word Test. The associations between BP and cognition were examined specifically for age and sex using linear regression analysis adjusted for baseline BP medication use, education and body mass index (kg/m 2 ).Results: BP was associated with cognition at the 8-year follow-up, but the association differed according to age and sex. In men, higher systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) at a young age (45-55 years of age) was associated with poorer cognition; the association was reversed at older ages, especially for those above 65 years of age. In women, the associations were generally weaker than for men, and sometimes in the opposite direction: For women, a higher SBP was associated with better cognition at a younger age and higher SBP poorer cognition at older ages -perhaps due to an age delay in women compared to men. Digit Symbol Test results correlated best with BP in a threeway interaction: BP by age by sex was significant for both SBP (p = 0.005) and DBP (p = 0.005).Frontiers in Psychology | www.frontiersin.org April 2020 | Volume 11 | Article 607 Hestad et al. Blood Pressure and CognitionConclusion: Increased SBP and DBP at the younger age was clearly associated with poorer cognitive function in men 8 years later; in women the associations were weaker and sometimes in the opposite direction. Our findings clearly indicate that interactions between age and sex related to BP can predict cognitive performance over time. Men and women have different age trajectories regarding the influence of BP on cognition.

Abstract: High scores in the MMSE and a satisfactory health perception among the participants were evident. There was no correlation between memory performance and health perception.
