Health Care Evolves From Reactive to Proactive

Abstract: Decoding health and disease pathways drives healthcare evolution. Historically, therapeutic paradigms have relied on interventions that mitigate symptoms of established diseases. Increasingly, molecular insights into pathophysiology now provide unprecedented opportunities to offer curative solutions or even prevent disease and thereby secure longitudinal wellness. These opportunities extend past individual patients to entire populations and geographies. Moreover, they optimize prospective healthspan across lif… Show more

“…Accordingly, emphasis is placed on development of new medical education curricula aimed to introduce transdisciplinary regenerative technologies across specialties to adequately prepare the frontline workforce for regenerative care delivery [12]. This prioritization is timely as practitioners increasingly face a rapidly aging global population [13]. The unproportioned burden of lifelong, chronic degenerative conditions, including cardiovascular disease, cancer and diabetes [14], imposes the need for regenerative solutions poised to contribute in addressing the noncommunicable diseases pandemic.…”

“…Of note, recipients of regenerative therapies may suffer from serious comorbidities associated with increased burden of chronic conditions that compromise recovery and overall quality of life. Thus, proactive, rather than reactive, nursing research to measure recovery trajectories including quality of life is warranted (Chow et al, 2016 ;Ruano, Enninga, Brana Rivera, & Terzic, 2019 ;Waldman & Terzic, 2019 ).…”

“…Longitudinal training therefore involves transdisciplinary faculty across medical, surgical, radiological and laboratory medicine specialties that incorporate disruptive innovation and deep learning to better predict/prevent/cure degenerative disease and address unmet patient needs. The newly educated community of regenerative practitioners is collectively poised to proactively optimize health span across life span [16].…”
